Turning Tides is a recently launched international giving facility supporting the rights and tenure of coastal and shoreline communities

Our full website is under development.

Turning Tides is an international giving facility dedicated to supporting the rights of local communities, small-scale fishers and fish workers, and Indigenous Peoples. When tenure is secure and resource rights are recognised communities thrive, environments are protected and economies are inclusive and strong.

Let’s contribute to the transformation of climate action, biodiversity conservation and food systems investments, policies and pratices – towards genuine recognition and centering of rights.

The core values that

guide our work:

How we

turn the tide

Turning Tides implements and advocates for liberatory approaches to philanthropy and partnership – empowering and centering local communities, small-scale fishers and fish workers, and Indigenous Peoples, and their allies. Our practices include multi-year flexible funding, streamlined processes, and comprehensive support beyond the financial contribution.

Liberatory approaches

we are working towards

Decentralized decision-making

Power-sharing in strategy and grant-making.

Trust-based, equitable approaches to grantmaking and partnerships.

Commitment to transparency, mutuality, and ethical engagement.

Emphasis on inclusivity, including free, prior, and informed consent.

Internal culture focused on critical reflexivity, collaboration, learning, and service.

We aim for local communities, small-scale fishers, fish workers, and Indigenous Peoples to experience their rights fully, and for their agency and leadership to be upheld in climate responses, sustainable resource management, environmental conservation, and equitable food systems transformation.
